DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACP AND HPL
Introduction:
Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP):-
It is also known as Sandwich panel. ACP was invented by 3A
Composites Company in 1964. Normally used for Exterior and Interior
applications in a building. ACP is available in different thicknesses with many
color varieties in market.
High Pressure Laminate (HPL):-
High Pressure laminate (HPL) is a
form of decorative laminates in which the layers of kraft paper in impregnated
with melamine resin are infused with decorative paper and protective overlay
and the resulting laminate is attached to the substrates at high pressures and
temperatures. Architects and Designers also recommend HPL for a variety of
furniture and cabinetry needs as well.
Material Difference between ACP & HPL
ACP Material:-
ACP is
composite material in which Thermoplastic polyethylene OR Fire retardant core
material is sandwiched between two thin Aluminium thin sheets. Aluminium sheets
can be coated with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), Flouropolymer resins (FEVE),
Polyester paint.
HPL Material:-
Made with
60-70% kraft paper and 30-40% Phenol formaldehyde resin. Resin provide a
strength, shape and size. Melamine formaldehyde resin used for wooden finishing
touch.
Cost Difference between ACP & HPL
Cost of ACP:-
- Standard
Thickness = 3mm, 4mm, and 6mm
- Price of 3mm Fireproof ACP sheet approx. = Rs. 75/sqft.
- Cost of ACP will be changed in few times based of thickness and colour varieties.
Cost of HPL:-
Thickness
of HPL sheet = 5mm, 8mm, and 12mm
5mm HPL sheet Price range:-
Rs. 250 to 500/sqft.
5mm installation charges:-
Rs. 100 to 200/sqft
Cost of HPL will be changed in few times based of thickness
and colour varieties. And installation cost of HPL will be changed based on
type of building.
Advantages of ACP & HPL
Advantages of ACP:-
- It is Flexible.
- It is Rigid, Durable and strong.
- ACP is Light in weight.
- Easy to work with.
- It is easy to install
- Economical cladding material.
- ACP is available in Wider variety of colours and textures.
- It is UV Resistant & Chemical resistant.
- ACP is Environmental friendly and is fully recyclable. The panels are usually made from about 85% recycled aluminium material.
- Termite & fungi resistant.
- It is unbreakable and weather resistant.
Advantages of HPL:-
- Greater resistant to fire.
- Greater wear resistance.
- Greater resistance to staining.
- Greater resistance to high temperatures.
- Greater resistance to humidity.
- Greater finishes with deep textures.
- Greater resistance to Impact.
- Resistant freeze and moisture.
Disadvantages of ACP &HPL
Disadvantages of ACP:-
Thermoplastic polyethylene core is not a fire resistance
material. It is used in Type-C Construction projects (Least fire resistant form
of construction, 1 & 2 storied buildings). No ACP is fire proof. It is only
fire proof compliant.
Disadvantages of HPL:-
Cost price and installation cost is higher than ACP.
Which is the best for a Building design:-
Based on quality and durability HPL is best from ACP. But
based on cost ACP is best from HPL.
